2nd Cognitive Science Happy Hour on Tuesday 21st October
October 20, 2008
After the raging success of the inaugural Cognitive Science Happy Hour, where we had so many people attending that we ran out of chairs, we have finally found the time to organise the second event for this Tuesday 21st October. We will be meeting at Axis Cafe, 1201 8th Street in Potrero Hill, at 7:30pm. We’ll most likely be in the outside area so the group can expand as need be—the seating is a little more flexible out there.
We’ve decided to change the structure slightly for this event, to try to focus the discussion a little bit. We’ve decided to have 2 or 3 speakers each night, followed by general discussion. Each speaker will talk briefly about a topic of interest to him/her for about 10 mins (no slides!), followed by around 10 mins or so of questions/discussion on that topic. For this Tuesday’s event, the speakers will be Brynn Evans talking about distributed cognition (and how it relates to the Social Web), followed by Cathy Edwards (me!) talking about Relevance Theory, followed by Don Steiny talking about Social Network Models of Information Systems. If you’re interested in speaking, please let us know at sfcogsci@gmail.com—even if we can’t schedule you for this coming event, we are looking for volunteers for future events.
Be sure to RSVP on Upcoming!
Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!
